A long time ago a retired Evangelical United Brethren Minister shared some of the wisdom he had gleaned from close to 60 years of ministry, and almost 90 years of life ... what I remember vividly was his contention that our job as minister - our calling - was to promote the Kingdom of God. He went on to describe the Kingdom as the living presence of the Risen Christ, not "some namby pamby warm pink fuzzy social club that gives everyone a hug and says warmly "it's okay" and sends them out into the world. The Body of Christ that is the church is about putting our faith into action..."
He went on to reflect on his ministry and the calling to afflict the comfortable and comfort the affilicted ... and to remain true to our calling and our faith ... Every day since I have begun my day remembering that moment and beginning my day with the prayer:
"God, guide me in my calling to be part of the Church as the living presence of the Risen Christ..."
Tomorrow I'll say that prayer again and I will continue on my journey of ministry ... I'm just not sure where the trail I'm trying to discern before me is going ... maybe tomorrow I'll pray for better light ...
