My puppy digs at the couch too, my thought is it must be instinct, she also "buries" treats and pig ears in and under the couch and especially in the dirty laundry. Freshly washed chewn up pig ears turn me off bacon!Flute and your kids are lovely, glad you have them to enjoy!
