I came out the door this morning to head to work and ... whoomp !!! I went down the front steps with a sliding crash ... The only casualty (thankfully) other than my pride and my derriere, was the case carrying my sunglasses that took the full brunt of the fall and was flattened accordingly ...
But as I thought about it, since moving to Manitoba in 2000, I have had no less than TWO slips EVERY year - and usually in the stretch from February to March ... some like today, have been minor, but a few of them have been spectacular and subsequently kind of painful ... I had one a couple of years ago on the ice in front of Minnedosa's Co-Op store that had Noahkila wishing he'd had a camera at the ready to record it ... "It was awesome the way you went up, THEN down dad ..." was his mantra ...
Oh well ... such are the risks of living in a snowy land and being out and about rather than hunkering down inside and praying for spring ... It's a risk I happily take ... one or two spills a season is a small price to pay ...
But like the old desk sargeant Esterhaus on Hill Street Blues used to say - "Hey !! Let's be careful out there !!"

Yak Trax my friend ... we swear by them! The only time D (my husband) fell this year was he stepped into a deep snow bank that he thought was hardened off and went down, down down and subsequently lost his balance and fell. Truly, Yak Trax are the best grippers out there and well worth the cost.
