Two Years Ago Today ...

My day began at 5:58am with the telephone ringing in the kitchen ... as I charged down the stairs to answer it I smelled smoke (not a good thing in a 100+ year old home) ... my first thought was it was something INSIDE the house ...

.

Then I answered the phone to hear the news that Minnedosa United Church was on fire ... by 8 am it was a loss ... by 11 am it was a smouldering foundation full of shattered ruins ... that day we broke bread, shared the cup and set our face to the future ...

.

It was a journey that would be fraught with more grief, more losses, and more hurt than I could have ever imagined ...

.

Now 2 years later ... the vacant lot remains ... the pastoral relationship has ended ... and Minnedosa struggles ... and I am left feeling spiritually homeless ...

.

There is no way to count the tears that have been shed in the last 24 months ... nor to account for the hurt that has been inflicted ... or to tally the losses that continue to mount ...

.

Today I am mindful of just what has been lost since that day two years ago ... Maybe one day the healing will really begin ...

.

For now I can only weep at what has been lost ...
