What 59.1% Means for Mr Harper ...

Fortunately the Canadian Election campaign has been spared the degeneration into hate-mongering that is too much a part of the desperation of the McCain-Palin ticket as they watch a competent, capable and intelligent opponent pull ahead in the polls ... although, the commentary yesterday about one Conservative Candidate who successfully unseated a Liberal Member of Parliament in Winnipeg who was also a visible minority, danced frightfully along the line of blatant racism ... her supporters touting her victory as an outcome of "voting for one of our own.

But the bigger issue that should not be lost in the post-election turmoil is the simple fact that ONLY 5 201 197 people in Canada voted for the Conservative Party.

That means over 18 000 000 registered voters DIDN'T vote for Mr Harper and his party.

There were 8 631 774 votes cast for the OTHER parties and over 10 million people who didn't vote at all ... We MUST remind Mr Harper that his "victory" isn't a clear mandate from the people of Canada, it is a mandate from the people who were going to vote conservatively anyway. People who too often vote out of fear and a desire to maintain the status quo ...

While I celebrate that the NDP gained seats, and the Liberals stayed present in the House, I can only hope that Mr Harper and his handlers remember the 25 MILLION CANADIANS who didn't vote for him, while crafting policy ... It will be a message I will continue to vocalize in coming months ...

Now, we await the out come of the next election on the North American Continent ...
