Tomorrow morning I'm heading into Winnipeg for another conference/workshop on Homelessness and housing ... This time we will hear Dr Sam Tsemberis (pictured above) who originated a concept called Housing First.Housing First is just like it sounds ... when you encounter a person on the streets who is homeless and perhaps suffering from concurrent challenges like substance abuse and mental illness, the FIRST STEP is to house them ... when you encounter ANYONE who is homeless, the first step is to find them a home ... and the best thing about Housing First is - IT WORKS !!!
Dr. Tsemberis is travelling from New York, where he has founded Pathways to Housing (click here to learn more about them), to share his knowledge and this "radical" concept with some Canadians who want to make a difference in the world around them ...
