Drat !!!!

I know I'm a creature of habit.

I also really like to cook.

I am also INCREDIBLY particular about the tools and utensils I use cooking and baking.

After 15 years together with M, I have gotten used to particular, and certain utensils for my culinary adventures in the kitchen. Some time ago I submitted the above picture of my kitchen gadget drawer and its contents as an example of a drawer that looks messy and disorganized, but has EVERYTHING in it I would need to whip together a gourmet meal (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) in a matter of minutes. The contents pictured above have been the "tools of my trade" when it comes to working in the kitchen.

Today for the umpteenth time, I pulled open a drawer in my kitchen and asked out loud, "where is ... (insert any number of kitchen utensil descriptors here - tonight it was serving spoons for the veggies - last week it was a small silicon spatula - yesterday it was a mixing bowl for the waffles) ???" Only to hear the answer from the living room - "At Mom's house ..."

"DRAT !!!"

You don't realize how much is involved in setting up a household until a moment like that ... when you pull open a drawer and reach in for a spatula or a whisk or any number of kitchen utensils only to note its absence ... Starting a new kitchen from scratch is A LOT of work. Things you've taken for granted for a decade and a half are suddenly absent and need to be replaced ... as a friend observed recently - "the best laid plans" ... sometimes life and reality intervenes in strange ways ... lately I've been spending inordinate amounts of time in the kitchen gadget aisle at the local Canadian Tire ...

Have you considered something on the counter in which this mess could stand up?

MESS????

My dear reader, that is NOT a mess ... it is a treasure store of culinary appliances and tools ... I never regard a cluttered drawer, desk or work space as a mess ... it is merely the sign of an artist at work ...

besides, that drawer was in our old house in Minnedosa ... my current kitchen gadget drawer is lacking many of the items pictured here ... but rest assured, in time my new drawer will take on a similar lived in look ...

It's ALL A MATTER OF TASTE and PREFERENCE !!

And I thought it a matter of care and respect for the tools that seem to delight you and serve you so well.

THAT I can appreciate and understand ... may have to re-think my approach ... thanks!!

I hadn't taken you as one who would change his mind. I've found it a good characteristic to nurture in ministry.

I've always been open to changing my mind when the "evidence" is presented in a reasonable and rational way ... though I'm always up for a good discussion or argument too !!!

Unfortunately in our world one too often assumes that an argument means a lack of openess to change and transformation ... I've always been about change and transformation and TALKING about the journey to it ...

BUT thanks.
