This morning as the kids had breakfast before leaving for school, I did a batch of Rice Krispies Squares along with their lunch sandwiches ... but after school I jumped into a phone booth and put on my Super Hero costume ...
I baked several dozen chocolate chip cookies, a dozen raisin bran muffins, a loaf of bread (in the bread machine), a pot of spaghetti, AND I did two loads of laundry ... the only opps in the whole experience was forgetting to put the detergent in with one load of laundry ...
Then it was off to a Parents' Advisory Council meeting at the kids' school ...

Back to mushrooms. As long as it keeps on raining*, there will always be
more mushrooms.

Judas:
Woman your fine ointment
Brand new and expensive
Should have been saved for the poor
Why has it been wasted?
We could have raised maybe
Three hundred silver pieces or more
People who are hungry
People who are starving
Matter more
Than your feet and hair
Jesus:
Surely you're not saying
We have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always
Pathetically struggling
Look at the good things you've got!
Think while you still have me
Move while you still see me
You'll be lost
You'll be so sorry
When I'm gone
Katie:
Do you ship?
Rev. Shawn;
Yes!
Hmmm ... a religious comment that makes no connection to the current context. NOW, there's a surprise ...
So, if I am to follow the tone here, it was sinful and bad of me to make the rice krispies squares and cookies for my childrens' school lunches, it was wrong of me to bake fresh bread for their sandwiches, and it was bad of me to bake the muffins for M ... and I should have sent them to bed without supper and forced them to wear stinky dirty clothes to school tomorrow ...
Sweet ... no wonder people are flocking to the Church and see us as such an open minded caring place ... I'm proud of what I've accomplished today ... and of what I do for my children and family ... I like baking - but I like sharing it more ...
For the record - whoever placed the anonymous comment is the kind of person I truly Hope both Katie and I are able to offend with our blogs ... it's about afflicting the comfortable ... it's about rocking the boat ... it's about living the Gospel !!
Hey Rev,
Just rocking your boat for a little bit for fun. It was just interesting to see all the food we have compared to the little African child in your "Even one is too many...." blog entry. I perhaps should have referenced that in relation to this blog when writing out those song lyrics. Perhaps it would have made sense, perhaps not. In hind sight, it wasn't fully the best choice of words to use. Anyway, all of our minds work in different ways I guess.
I do however, find some truth in the those lyrics to "Jesus Christ Superstar." You or I will not stop the world hunger problems by not feeding your own children. I have more than I should just like nearly all of us in this "civilized" society. I too am not willing to go out on a limb like Jesus, Ghandi, or Mother Teresa and give it all up for the good all human kind. We could all do better I guess.
My entry did what I intended it to do I guess and perhaps it was a little harsh, but we do have to keep an open mind to all opinions I suppose (even those that offend us).
Your blogs don't offend me and I find your opinions to be very open minded for a preacher (and most people for that matter). That is refreshing. Keep going prairie preacher, I think your intentions are kind. Take care.
Thank you anonymous ...
... I'm always open to criticism (when it is fair and open) and correction ...
My only question to you is this:
Have you clicked on The Hunger Site today???
