It begins with a story in today's News here in Manitoba: Thompson teen, parents take youth curfew to court , ... it moves to a place where I have to wonder where these peoples' heads are ...
The jist of the story is that a teen and two women in Thompson want to fight the Town Wide curfew that requires youth under 18 to be home before midnight ... (a reasonable law) ... The trio claim that the curfew is a violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedom on the basis of age ...
One of those involved in the story proudly boasts that she has never imposed a curfew on her own children ...
I simply have to ponder - "if a kid is out wandering the street at midnight, what is he/she up to??"
There is no proof that the curfew affects youth crime in anyway, but why is telling young people to go home at night a bad thing???
If you want to waste time and money on something, I can think of a MILLION causes that are more important, and more valuable than fighting over a curfew ... but that's just me. I will impose a curfew on my children, and I will continue to limit what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour ... but I guess that's being an old fashioned parent in today's world ...
