Oh, my word... I have a very old black and white photograph, given to me by my grandmother, and taken by one of my great-uncles on the prairies... It is a photo of the sky just before a very large tornado hit Saskatchewan.
I remember that when my grandmother first showed me the picture, she said, "If you ever see a sky like this-- looking like little cotton balls-- RUN."
I saw the forecast for the prairies last night on the Weather Network... big red slashes right across the map where you live. Hope there wasn't too much damage and destruction, and glad that you managed to make it home from your walk safely.
My kids are constantly on the look out for "cotton balls", and fearful when they see them. My brother works for Environment Canada and told us a couple years ago that cotton balls such as in your pictures are indicative of very severe weather to come, and often preceed tornadoes. I too saw these on Saturday night, they are incredible to look at that's for sure... Nice photo's Rev.
Yes, Prairie Preacher, these are some strange clouds! I've never seen anything like it. I hope your area wasn't one of those hit by the heavy tornados this weekend!
Wow.
