I have a half dozen favourite films ... this is one of them ...
There is so much to love about this film ... the cast and their characters they play ... the hysterically bizarre lines they utter ... and the story line itself ... it all combines in a cinematic treat that has since the first time I saw it, been an absolute favourite of mine ...
Tonight I vegged out watching it yet again ...
One of my favourite exchanges comes whe Vizzini and Westley are preparing for a battle of wits:
V: I can't compete with you physically, and you're no match for my brains.
W: You're that smart?
V: Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates?
W: Yes.
V: Morons.
And the frivolity continues ...

We made it! The shortest day of the year has arrived, and will soon be
past. By Sunday, sunset here on the 50th parallel will be one whole minute

Excuse me, can you please explain your point? If in fact you have one!
Are you suggesting that we (the readers) are all sub morons, implying our iq's are much less than 70?
Are you trying to piss off the people who read your blog?
Myself, I read your blog for interest and entertainment, as well as compassion and understanding. Lately, I have felt amazement at your high ideas of yourself, including your portrayal of yourself as a saint, or as Jesus himself.
I am now much offended.
Just who do you think reads your blogs?
Sallie Ledoux
Sallie:
I'm QUOTING the film ... Wallace Shawn as Vizzini is BRILLIANT - the entire scene between he and Dread Pirate Roberts is HILARIOUS ... the whole film is filled with memorable quips and quotes ... I JUST HAPPEN TO LOVE THAT ONE
I can remember coming home to residence back in the early 90's having watched the film at a repetoire theatre and we giggled like fools over this scene ...
Wasn't making a statement at all ... wasn't my intention ... Just sharing a funny scene from a favourite movie ... nothing more!!!!
to think otherwise is truly "INCONCEIVABLE"!!!
BTW, Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya ("My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father. Prepare to DIE !!!") is equally brilliant !!!!
I just adore this film!!!
Sallie, if that post pissed you off, I'd be willing to bet you were pissed off long before you logged on to this blog.
If you can read a quote from a film and take it as a personal attack on your intelligence, then I dare say it is YOU who thinks quite highly of yourself.
I recently read that what a person detests most in another is usually the thing they secretly detest in themselves. And while you're chewing on THAT, I think the Reverend should re-read Tolle's "A New Earth," the chapter that begins with "Is That So?" Why the hell he's defending himself here is beyond me, and as confusing as Sallie's ridiculous comment.
Peace.
Katie
I too was offended shawn. I've anonymously lurked on your blog for a while now, and while I find some of your posts insightful, I find that often you don't realize how much hurt you can cause with your words. And it's not because I'm not open minded, or even can't see what you're trying to say, you just come across as a self-aggrandizing, self-important bully sometimes. Sticks and stones, but those words can sometimes kill.
If this blog offends you people, how in the world do you survive a DAY out in the world?
Christ, I'm so glad to be me right now.
For the KTB, and Shawn,
the one word that comes to mind is: ARROGANT.
unabashed, SALLIE
"Arrogant," There's that word again.
Like I said, what you detest in others is usually what you secretly detest in yourself.
Sounds like some people know Shawn and others don't.
