Last night just before midnight, I could hear our collie Callie howling in the back yard ... it was a strange howl unlike any I've ever heard before ...
... I dashed out the back door to see what was wrong, because it was just that kind of a howl ... as I opened the back door and stepped out in the yard I could hear the yipping of coyotes to the south of town - not far - but somewhere just beyond the edges of the houses ...
Callie for her part was enthusiastically answering their yips and howls and barks ... She was explosively excited ... She was prancing around the yard ... jumping up on the wash stand ... and carrying on like a complete idiot.
She was having the time of her life ... I wonder if when dogs dream (and you'll never convince me they don't - I've always loved watching a dog dream they are always very animated) ... if they dream of being a wild dog somewhere out in the wilderness running with their feral cousins ...
Last night Callie was worked into a complete lather ... I wonder if she went to sleep last night dreaming of being a wild coyote of the serengeti ... or atleast the Canadian Prairie ... I hope she did ...
