The Space Race Began !!Sputnik I was launched 50 years ago today.
To honour the event I think
I'll watch the movie
that chronicles the impact this event
had on the lives of some boys in
the coal mining region of Appalachia.
The book Rocket Boys
(the book the movie is based on)
is far, far, far better ...
Check either one out!!
And take a moment to look skyward tonight,
and reflect on how far humanity has come
since that night in 1957 when people
stood looking up waiting for a glimpse
of a tiny sphere of metal flying far overhead !!
