In 1992 World Leaders committed to
cutting by HALF
the number of people globally who live in poverty
by the year 2015!!!

We're HALF WAY there,
and poverty rates continue to climb!!!
This year's theme for
(today October 17th)
is
"Working Together out of Poverty."
.
Today is a good day to tell out politicians
that we've heard enough words and empty promises,
now we want to see some real action that
will bring about some substantive change.
BUT,
in the mean time,
let's do what WE can to help eradicate poverty.
BUY Fair Trade Products.
Click on places like The Hunger Site.
Help agencies and groups that
provide REAL economic and community development help
on the ground where it is needed.
AND find ways that each of us can make a
real difference, then tell your friends.

Together we can Work out of poverty!!!

One last thought:
As of this morning, the Cost of War counter
estimates that the Iraqi conflict has cost
the US Government about:
$460 698 100 000!!!
.
Now, if you were to apply THAT MUCH money
to the eradication of poverty instead
it would result in
$1 262 186 000 a DAY for an entire year.
WHICH MEANS every impoverished person
living on less than a dollar a day,
could have their income level DOUBLE!!

It's all about priorities isn't it ...
