Not the Marge of Lake Labarge ...

But the assorted gaggles of geese taking up residence along the lake in Minnedosa has brought out mixed reactions ...

Today I've heard people express sympathy for the feathered fowl braving the chill of the water and the cold of the ice ...

I've listened as others express surprise at the tardy schedule these migrating masses are adhering to this season ...

Others share the frustration of hunters waiting in the south for the bounty they wanting to claim ...

and still others have nothing but contempt for these geese that bear the name of our fair land ...

However you feel about them, Canada Geese are a beautiful presence in the wild during the spring and fall migrations ... they make their presence known with their deep resounding 'honk' and the straggling 'v' formations in the sky ... and the droppings they tend to leave behind for the unwary ...

Soon our lake will ice over and our geese will wing their way south for another winter ...

I think Aldo Leopold said it best when he observed a field greeted by the lone honk of an arriving goose, is drab no more ... an icy lake hosting hundreds of the honking creatures is simply sublime !!
