Today ...

At the 11th Hour of the 11th Day in the 11th Month, the guns of August fell silent, and the world took a collective breath ... words were spoken, treaties were signed, commitments were made, and peace was heralded ...

It was to be a lasting peace ... The War to End ALL Wars had ended and humanity had learned its lessons ... now would be a time of unprecedented peace. Swords would truly be beaten into ploughshares and the prophetic words of peace so oft and so easily spoken would at last be lived rather than just shared as empty rhetoric ...

Oh, were those hopes to have come true ... In time the world would slide into an economic depression ... in time the drums of war began to pound ... in time the world began to move towards a greater conflagration than that which enveloped them in the early years of the Century ... in time another war would begin ...

The words of peace still linger ... whispered ... spoken ... and offered in hope ...

The dead lie in far away fields reminding us of their sacrifice ... the words of the poets and prophets float through our collective souls as we pause ... pin on a simple red poppy ... and take time to Remember ...

.

To remember the fallen ... to remember the lost ... to remember the cost of war ... to remember the preciousness of peace ... and to remember the men and women who stand on the line this day ...

.

Today ... we remember ... Lest We Forget!!

.

And we continue to hope that perhaps one day, humanity will finally learn the way of Peace and learn war no more!!
