Today I'm Proud to be His Dad ...

Last night after school Noahkila asked me what he should do if he knew people had stolen something from a store ... I took him aside and asked him for more details including the WHO, the WHERE, the WHAT and the WHEN ...

He told me and said, "I know what they did was wrong, but if I rat them out I'm gonna get beaten up or killed ..."

I smiled at him and said, "No you're not. I got your back boy ... to get to you, they have to get through me ..."

We then talked about what the right thing to do would be ... He decided to go and talk to the owner of the store where the thefts occurred and tell all ...

As he turned to get his stuff and set out to the store, I said "I'm proud of you. It's the right thing to do."

He laughed and said, "You can write THAT on my tombstone !!"

I don't think I've ever been prouder of Noahkila, than I was in that moment ... all the lessons, all the moments, all the frustrations - everything lead to a moment in time when he became a man and decided for himself that the ONLY option open to him was to speak the TRUTH. And he did - he didn't want me to go, he did it himself.

About a year ago, I mused about how proud I was to be his dad (click here) as I wished him well in a new school year - "Go and Slay the Dragon!!" I said ... This year, my little Dragon Slayer has proven himself to be the man I knew he could become ...

Watch OUT world - here comes Noahkila !!

What a good kid. It just proves you've been a good dad. Well done!
