8 Minutes to go ...

I'm in an introspective mood today ... I'm thinking a lot about time ...

This week I read that if the sun snuffed out we would have 8 minutes before we as inhabitants of the planet earth even knew ...

Eight minutes - 480 seconds - before we knew that the light that has, for millenia illuminated and breathed life into our world was simply and utterly gone ...

Now, scientists assure us this won't simply happen ... and if it did the loss of the sun would only be the beginning of our problems ... Life on earth would simply be doomed without the warmth of the sun ... the night that would fall would end only when the planet was a cold, frozen, lifeless hunk of ice drifting in an eternal abyss ...

But it was the 8 minutes thing that made me wonder ... What would we do if we only had 8 minutes left ??

Would we tell our family how much we love them?
Would we call our friends far away to say how much we care about them?
Would we laugh or weep?
Would we step outside and savour the last fleeting moments of sunshine?
Would we go out and toss a ball in the sun before the darkness came?
Would we stand naked and let the sunshine warm our whole being?
(with apologies to the neighbours)
Would we apprecate what we were about to lose?
Would we embrace our lover and never want to let go?
Would we dare to live boldly, or would we shrink back in fear?

If tomorrow we heard we had only 8 minutes of sunshine left ... what would we do?

It's an awesome question ... with a much more awesome answer ...

What would YOU do?
