Living at the Crossroads ...

One of the benefits of living in the middle of the country in a place like Manitoba, is that you are posited in a spot that is a Crossroads of sorts ... Each summer we are reminded of that when we get visitors, both expected, and those who arrive unexpectedly on our doorstep ...

We've enjoyed hosting friends and family coming from BC to points east ... and friends and family who are coming from Ontario to points west ... Some phone in advance and say "We're coming ..." others just arrive on our doorstep ...

This weekend is no exception to that ... last night we hosted for supper a colleague and his family on their way home to northern Ontario from a holiday in the west ... and this mornng there was a knock at the door and standing on our doorstep were old family friends from Ontario ... Shirley and Glenn have been friends of my mom and dad's since long before I was even a gleam in my dad's eye ... we grew up roaming their farm in North Easthope Township, we swam in their gravel pit, they swam in our pool ... they were like an Aunt and Uncle ... and today they came for coffee on their way west ...

It's great to open the door and greet and old familiar face ... It's great to be able to serve coffee and get caught up on the news from home ... It's the way things are when you live at a cross roads ...
